10 on Tuesday

1. Totally blogging from my iapd...yeah baby! Only prob is I can't upload pics from here so I'll have to do that later! The spell corrector is a bit of a bugger too, it keeps telling me when I type devin that I should be typing devil!!

2. Terry and I went down to Borders at Town Square to have Laura Ingraham sign her new book. We waited in line for an hour an stood by her while she signed our books for a total of 3.2 seconds. It was still pretty cool to see her up close!

07.27.10 Laura Ingraham

3. Preparations for the Popsicle stand are almost complete. We should be up and running by Thursday or Friday. We have 4 flavors of homemade Popsicles so far. With all of the sampling going on around here I'm afraid we won't have anything to sell when it comes time! Here's a little peek at what we've been doing to get it ready...it will be epic!

07.24.10

4 If you were to buy a Popsicle at a roadside stand what flavors would you like to buy?

5. We ar planning a trip to get out of town the week before school starts. We can't decide between California or Utah, any opinions?

6. I just downloaded words with friends for my iPad, its pretty fun! Wanna play with me? My username is kristinconk!

7. Remember how I said I was turning over a new leaf and was vowing to be good and loose weight? Well so far I am down 2.2 lbs. I am taking it really slow because they (who ever "they" is) say that is the way to go. I have been using the My Fitness Pal app on my iPad and has really been helping. It has me on a 1200 calories a day diet, it goes up if I workout! It can be difficult at times to stay in that 1200 calories but I have on,y gone over once in the las week and that was on Friday when we went to P.F Changs for dinner and I only went over by 200 calories! I'm pretty proud of myself! 2.2 down, 27.8 more to go!

8. Can you recommend any good books for a 10 year old girl who reads at a 10 th grade level? She wants to read teenager books but I'm just not ready for that! She has read all of the books I got her for this summer which I thought would be more than enough but is apparently not!

9. Can you recommend a way to get a 12 year old boy to read? He refuses and I worry, he just doesn't like to read and I don't know how to deal with that! We have bought him books that are things he's into but still he hems and haws when we make him read! What to do, heat to do?

10. Terry kept me up all night last night so I'm going to call it good and say g'night all!

Dad

Today is my Dad's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! I can wish him one from right here because he is probably my most faithful reader. He even called me to repentance on not blogging for 2 weeks when I was in Oregon. When I asked my mom what to get for Dad for his birthday (because he is literally the hardest person to shop for. If he want is he buys it!) she said, just find a way to remember and make it special. Well I don't know how special this will be but I'll give it a try. And for some reason I could not find any recent pictures of him except for these two.
**note to self take more pictures of people other than you kids**

My dad and I haven't alway had what you would call a congruent relationship, well, just through the teenage years anyway. I had a bit of a, what would you call it, well, a mouth on me that my dad didn't care for too much, what dad would? I managed to make him turn purple on a number of occasions. You see I always had to have the last word. That meant that when he would say "NOT ANOTHER WORD" I would follow up with "FINE" which would then consequently follow with a purple faced dad. I eventually grew out of that little phase and soon there after became the favorite of his children!!

My Dad has been serving as the Bishop of the Willow Springs Singles ward for the past 3 years and has recently been released. I am so proud of the spiritual giant He is. It was so wonderful to watch his love for those he ministered to grow to innumerable proportions.

15 Things about my Dad you may or may not know...

1. My dad wields a mean golf club.
2. He is generous beyond measure.
3. He is pretty computer savvy for an old guy (note the iPad he's figuring out in the above picture)
4. He loves my mom so much (don't believe me just friend him on facebook, but be forewarned he gets a little sappy!)
5. He is a lover of pretty much anything with wheels, and has a hard time holding onto a car for more than 2 years!
6. I used to be his riding buddy on the back of the Harley's when I was young (that was about me but it says something about him that he put up with having a mouthy teenager on the back of him. Come to think of it maybe that's why he like taking me riding, because he could spend time with me without having to hear my mouth!)
7. When he was my Sunday School teacher he used to teach us about Luke 7:11 and Brother Winchells often subbed!
8. He has for as long as I can remember, woken up before the sun. Even when he has no where to be!
9. He is a great Gramps!
10. He always does the dishes after any meal!
11. He cooks bacon PERFECTLY!
12. He is the funnest to take shopping because he buys stuff! My favorite was when I was younger and my mom jacked up her leg in a skiing accident and Dad had to to the grocery shopping, you could throw anything in the cart and he wouldn't say anything!
13. He used to run marathons before he destroyed his knees from running outside!
14. He has a twin sister (Hey Aunt Muff-Happy Birthday)
15. He is loved greatly my all of his children and grandchildren.

Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!! I love you!

A Day at the Lake

At approximately 10:00pm on Friday night we got a wild hair to take the boat out for a run on Saturday morning. It being the inaugural run of the summer we decided it better just be us rather than inviting friends to come. While the boat ran GREAT was rather hot. We got to the lake about 10:30 in the morning and I had the LONGEST walk in the history of walks back to the boat after we launched the boat and I parked the truck. Well I take that back it was the second longest walt the longest was the hike back up to get the truck when it was time to load up and go!! The kids were i the water the entire day, that water was so nice, maybe 5 degrees too warm but still refreshing. Terry brought some scuba/snorkel gear was on the boat and the kids had fun with the flippers mask and snorkel. Sam thought the booties were the perfect accessory to top off her polka dot suit and little yellow bucket!

Photobucket

The kids didn't do much digging in the sand because it was just to dang hot.

Photobucket

When we got to the beach I opened the ice chest only to find that all the ice had melted all ready. Did I mention it was hot? So Terry and Sam hopped on the boat and ran back to the marina to get a bag of ice. when they got back Terry was just flat tired, he plopped down in the chair and didn't move for like an hour other than to jump in the lake to cool off! Check out the reflection in his glasses, pretty cool eh?

Photobucket

There was the great fight over the blue fins (mine) because they were small and could fit the kids. Brett kindly posed for a few shots in his gear...I'm thinking we need to get this kid certified so he can be his dad's diving buddy.

Photobucket

Bonnie didn't go into the water unless Terry or I were in so she just hung right at the edge and filled her swimsuit to the brim with silty sand that has stained her swimsuit black!

Photobucket

We took a drive out to the dam before we headed back. I have never seen so much of the back side of the thing. The waster is so low. It was really cool to see the progress on the bridge though. Brett has been bugging us for a months to drive out to see it, this was way better than making that drive! I think it is supposed to be open in September, maybe we'll make the drive then so we can go across.

Photobucket

All in all it was a great day at the lake, and we all took home a souvenir. SUNBURNS. Apparently 3 applications in a 6 hour period is not enough when you are in the water constantly and melting when in the sun!

1. I have turned over a new leaf. When I got home from Oregon I avoided the scale like the plague because I knew when I finally took the plunge to get up on the thing it wouldn't be pretty. I was right. I hit an all time high and low all in the same moment. High because when I stood on the scale it started singing "Once, Twice, Three Times a Lady". Low because I have never felt so bad about my body, I used to be the skinny one!! I will be again, I hope you guys don't get sick of hearing about it because I will document my progress here!!

2. I downloaded this app for my iPad in hopes of paying more attention to what goes in my mouth so that these days of being the fattest I have ever been will soon be over. It calculates how many calories you should eat by using an equation of how much you want to loose, your age, sex, exercise habits and how much you want to loose per week. It also tracks what you eat during the day and tells you how many calories you have left. IT's pretty cool, and FREEEEE! You all know how I feel about free!!!

3. I ran on my treadmill for 45 mins today. Do you know how hard it is to run on the treadmill when you have punk kids running around? I think I was actually on the treadmill for 45 mins but add another 15 for stops and getting off to tells kids to do their chores! The 45 mins did go rather quickly though I have to say because I am reading a great book on my iPad.

4. Have I told you how much I love my Ipad???

5. Brett left yesterday morning for scout camp. Not sure quite how I feel about it yet. This is the first time he has ever been away from home without us or family member. My house is definitely quieter. But I miss him. I am worried he will be homesick. I hope he gets along well with the other boys and is respectful and helpful to the leaders. Most of all though, I hope he has fun!

6. The other kids (minus Bonnie) are staying at my brothers house tonight. My house will be REALLY quiet with only a 2 year old who goes to bed at 8:30 here. What ever will I do with all that peace?

7. I really want a bowl of ice cream and my calorie counter tells me I can have 135 more calories for the day but I think I will be strong and forego it. Maybe.

8. Way back on Memorial Day, Terry was wrestling with his nephew Kyle who is 15 and built like a bull. A few days later he finally went to the ER because we thought he might have a broken rib, it was only bruised but apparently that can be more painful. Here we are almost 2 months later and he can't sneeze with out clutching his side and gasping in pain. Poor guy! It just won't heal...anybody out there have a remedy for a bruised rib??

9. My kids have a plan for a homemade popsicle stand. I have been looking up recipes for homemade popsicles, it's not helping the whole diet thing!

10. We took the kids to the lake on Saturday. It was the first time I have been on our boat for 4 years. It was really fun, the kids want to make it a weekly occurrence, I wouldn't mind, except for the swimsuit part!!

I'm sleepy and I want some ice cream, I think I will just go to bed as my former roommate and current sister in law used say, "if your hungry just go to bed" I guess is works because she has never been above a size 4!!

G'Night

Why haven't I been doing this all summer?

We took the kids over to Grandie and Gramps' house to swim on Friday night. The pool was the perfect temperature. We had a hard time getting the kids out to go home.

Bonnie created this get up all by herself! She is so resourceful. She had a hard time jumping in the pool without her entire head going under so she added the blow up floatie so she could jump in and not go under... isn't she smart?
Photobucket

We ordered pizza for dinner, it was kind of nice not to be worrying about the dog getting out food (he's in Oregon with my parents) We did a special treat and ordered lava cakes for everybody for dessert. If you order dominoes pizza and you care at all about the size of your behind DO NOT ...i repeat...DO NOT order these, they will be your utter downfall!

Photobucket

I ended up with not one picture of the front side of Brett, he was to busy to stop and ham it up for the camera...I do have so great shots from our lake day we had the following day, stay tuned I will blog that later in the week!

Photobucket

I think I am going to do this a couple times a week we had so much fun...I even squoze (that's a word right? my computer is telling me it's not! o-well!!) my big behind into a swimsuit...no you won't ever get to see pictures of that!!

Alternate Processing....I need your opinions

****I processed these pictures how I normally do and I did a little vintage action on the other post...tell me what you think, which do you like better! (I'm pretending that you care here so humor me all right!!****

10 on Wednesday (because my hand cramped up from typing our story yesterday)

1. I am finally back from Oregon after 3 and a half weeks. It was wonderful. The only thing that could have made it better was to have had Terry with me the whole time, not just for the last week.

2. I mention on facebook last week that the AMAZING photographer Jeanna Hayes is offering classes for all level of photographers and you should sign up. I think you have until tomorrow to sign up. All of the info can be found HERE. I will be going on the field trip, I hope to see you all there!!

3. I had a lot of fun playing around with and learning to use my off camera flash. Here is some of the stuff I did.

Photobucket

4. I really slacked off on blogging in Oregon, I had big plans to blog tons but I just was lazy. I didn't really even take that many pictures. I think because I go to the ranch for 2-3 weeks every summer it's kinda been there done that but I need to not take that attitude because my kids change every year and that is what I need to capture about the place.

5. You guys really seemed to like the "Story Of Us" yesterday. It has now been thoroughly revealed to the blogging world what a complete dork I am (as if I hadn't already.) I had 84 unique hits on the blog and 116 page views. But somehow only had 5 comments. How did that happen? Show me the love people, even if it's anonymous, I still like to hear what you think!!

6. I really need to buy a good piano for my boys. Ours is on it's last leg and I seem to be spending more money to keep it in tune than I should. So if there is anyone out there that would like to be a benefactor for my boys and donate a piano (it doesn't have to be new, just will hold a tune for more than 3 months) I would be eternally grateful.

7. I just realized I never did a June recap for my Project:365. I am missing the first 3 days because they are on my other computer and I am to lazy to go dig them out!!
Photobucket

8. I managed to make it through the winter without getting sick only to now have my 3rd cold since April. Whats up with that? I went to buy Zycam nasal swabs and they DON'T HAVE THEM ANYMORE...ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Those things were the best. My mom thinks the "they's" have something t so with it! If you are confused about who the "they's" are let me know and I'll see if I can get my father-in-law to guest post a blog about who the "they's" are!!

9. I know I am the last person on the planet to discover Pandora...well maybe not the las, little Ming Cho in the rice fields of China may not have heard about it yet...but whoa, how cool is that. You just pick what kind of music you like and it plays it for you for FREE. You can't beat free in this economy!!

10. I went shopping in Oregon with my mom and got the cutest $12 shoes EVER!! I had to do a self portrait with them because they are so stinking cute!! Please pay no attention to the big fat white arms in the picture. OOPS, I think I may have just drawn attention to the very thing I don't want you to look at, now you are looking more and more because I keep talking about my fat white arms. I'm shutting up now!

The Story of Us.

Today we celebrate 14 years of wedded bliss and to commemorate the occasion I thought I would sit down and write out my version of our story. You will laugh you will cry you will most certainly throw up in your mouth a little. Anyway here goes.

Once upon a time there were two families. The Zobrist's and the Conk's. These two families were close in every way. They spent time traveling, hanging out bar-b-quing and all other things two families that are the best of friends do together. In the Zobrist family there were three boys and 2 girls, the oldest of these girls being Kristin. The Conks were a family of fewer numbers 1 girl and 2 boys. The oldest of those boys being Terry Kay.

Terry Kay was quite a bit older than Kristin when they travelled as families to Hawaii when Kristin was 6 and Terry was 10. It was the 1984 olympics that year and we spent hours watching the summer games, deep sea fishing on the boat (though not at the same time, they were on separate "teams" and fished on separate days) but the most memorable time of that heavenly time in Hawaii was the day they built the biggest sand castle there ever was. Well Kristin didn't really get to help because when she tried to help Terry Kay YELLED at Kristin that she was ruining they "Coliseum" that was a very important part of the sand castle. She was very sad and didn't like that Terry Kay very much.

Years went on many trips to the Lake and and condo for snow skiing in Brianhead Terry and Kristin didn't really spend much time together, Terry was busy with the older boys and Kristin busy with the younger kids. When Kristin was 13 the families travelled for the first time to Lake Powell on the "Party Hut." By the time Kristin was starting to notice boys and saw Terry in a new light in his golden boy bronzed 17 year old body. She thought he was cute but way to old and wasn't really fond of the mullet he was sporting. However when Kristin was standing on the back of the Party Hut, Terry Kay came up behind her and pretended to push her in the lake by grabbing her around the waist and pushing but grabbing back at the last second so she wouldn't really fall in the lake. While I am sure in Terry Kay's eyes he was just joking around with little Kristin, inside butterflies started fluttering in Kristin's stomach and she had a hard time being around him for the rest of the trip.

Another 2 years went buy and Kristin and Terry didn't see a whole lot of each other both being busy in their separate lives but Terry being best friends with Kristin's oldest brother had the Honor of being his best man at his wedding and Kristin being the little sister was obligatorily asked to be a brides maid. Kristin has a very vivid memory of that night. Standing next to Terry Kay watching the video playing at the reception as he bragged about the pictures he had taken of the happy couple that made it into the wedding video. She thought to herself, "Man he is so cute now that he got rid of that mullet I wish I was a little bit older so he would notice me, but I'm only 15 and he would never think of me like that, I'm just the little sister!"

In the Spring of the following year Terry Kay left for his mission serving in Ireland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. About a year in Kristin had a strong impression to write Terry a letter to which she completely ignored due to her complete self centeredness that most 16 year old girls have and never wrote that letter. She went on her merry teenaged life and never gave it another thought. Later it was revealed that Kristin's older brother had sent some pictures of Kristin holding her new nephew to which Terry finally noticed that Kristin wasn't a little girl any more.

On a very warm summer evening in May, Kristin was called home from a friends house and told that were were going to the airport to see Terry Kay come home from his mission. There may have been some prompting to "get cute" from her mother but she didn't really worry about it, just put on her shortest pair of shorts and hopped into the back of the suburban. Now what that mother was thinking telling her 17 year old daughter to "get cute" for a 21 year old MAN it is still to be questioned but it's all history now. There was a rather large group assembled at the gate that night and turned out that Kristin just so happened to be placed smack dab in front in the middle of the group so that she and her short short wearing long legs were the first thing Terry Kay saw after two years in a foreign country. Not a bad start.

More than usual the Conk's and the Zobrist's seemed to spend a lot of time together that summer. Kristin had just graduated from high school and was getting ready to head up to Utah to get her education in the art of...well, hair!! There were lots of trips to the lake and bar-b-ques, and it seemed like every other day there was some reason the two families collided with one another. Kristin flirted tirelessly to no avail, apparently all that growing up she did still wasn't quite enough for Terry to take notice. Then the annual trip to Lake Powell happened. This year was different than in years past because the families (now owning a house boat) decided to spend 2 full weeks in the sun at the lake that year. Right there on the back of the houseboat and the tip of Face Canyon Kristin fell, and fell hard as Terry sang as he played his guitar all of the Irish ballads he had learned across the ocean, and a few not so irish songs as well!! Now how could any girl resist a REALLY cute guy that sings and plays the guitar. She proceeded to pull out all the stops, offering to give back/feet rubs, prancing around in her favorite short shorts and flirting tirelessly. Terry seemed interested but a bit apprehensive. On the way home when there seemed to be nobody to ride home with Terry in his truck Kristin hopped in and snagged the empty seat. Conversation came easily to them, they talked of music, Terry's mission and Kristin's up coming plans head to Utah in the fall. Things seemed to Kristin to be on the right track. Over the proceeding weeks she came to eat at the Country Inn (the families restaurant where Terry had been hired on as a manager) far too often in hopes of seeing him again. She brought him brownies and did everything she could to get him to ask her out...NADA, ZIP, ZILCH!

A few more weeks went by and Kristin invited herself on an overnight trip to lake mead with Terry and his cousin and his wife. We had a great time, did lots more flirting but STILL...NOTHING! Then Kristin's brother (Terry's best friend) was planning a trip to Disneyland and they both planned to go to. "This will be the telling time, either he likes me or he doesn't and then I move on" Kristin thought to herself. She just tried to be herself and enjoy the trip and let what may happen happen. It didn't, not right at first anyway. After 2 days in the happiest place on earth Kristin got up enough nerve to make her move. While riding on splash mountain she laid back on him and put his arms around her. He didn't take them off and that was a good sign. Not much happened the rest of the trip except Terry promised in the car on the way home that he would take her out for her 18th birthday coming up the next week. His family went out of town and she finagled herself a real date just the two of them the night before her birthday to see a movie. That night was the REAL START of it all, Just after midnight Terry kissed Kristin goodnight, she didn't let it ruin the mood when he told her that it felt like he was kissing his sister, she knew what she wanted and finally had it in her grasp and she wasn't letting go. They saw each other almost every day for the next few weeks until Kristin was to leave for Utah.

A long distance relationship was started, hundreds of dollars were spent on phone bill and gas money. In November when Kristin came home for the Thanksgiving weekend they took the saturday after the holiday to go skiing up in Brianhead. As they swished down the slopes Kristin surprised Terry with her mad skills on the snow. She sure knew how to work it in her purple stretch pants! Again it was later revealed that Terry knew she was the one for him when he got to the bottom of the hill and turned to watch her come down only to find that she was right behind him all the way, shredding up the slopes!!

With Valentines coming up Terry had made his choice, He would pop the question. A drive up the hills to Redrock, a romantic view of the city, a guitar in tow, Terry proceeded to make Kristin an offer she couldn't refuse. The question was popped and Kristin was ecstatic. Terry's birthday being just a few days before Valentines day and being a Conk was having a birthday party (Conk's always have birthday parties you see, it's kinda a Conk thing "cake & ice cream") When the festivities settled down and we all sat around recovering from the sugar comas that were induced from a delicious cake Terry piped up and said "Hey Kristin why don't you show everybody what I gave you for Valentines day" It was then that she pulled a ring from her pocket and put it on that third finger on her left hand. The gaggle of people there sat astounded, no one had expected that. After the jaws were picked up off the floor the official merging of the Conk's and Zobrist's began. And they lived happily ever after...for at least 14 years anyways.

Well if you made it though our story I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did reliving those moments I haven't thought about in quite sometime. To most it probably isn't a fairy tail but it is to me. Terry and I believe that we have something a lot of couples out there don't have and that is movie love. You know the kind that just makes you sick to watch on the big screen, the kind that just doesn't seem possible. Well I'm hear to tell you it is possible because I have it with the most amazingly wonderful man that roams this earth today. Feel free to go throw up now!!
